SeasonSix.EpisodeThree | Mercato d’hiver
Another January and another season of hopes and dreams. We currently sit 6 points ahead of PSG after a couple of disastrous losses for them. We, however, remain unbeaten.
Everything is going well. Almost too well. But we have PSG next so there’s always time for it to fall apart. But until then, let me take you through our January matches and the transfer window.
THE TRANSFER WINDOW
A couple of transfers in, but mainly youth players for the future.
So the players in.
IN | Sevvas Nikolaou | €7.5M from Apol. Limassol
At 6’6″ Savvas is going to be a beast of a centre back. We will see if we can send him out on loan for the remainder of the season but if not he can develop here as our facilities and coaching is now one of the best in Europe.
IN | Tugrul Öztürk | €8M from Bursaspor
We agreed on a deal to sign Tugrul a while back now but couldn’t sign him due to transfer rules. However, he is now 18 so free to join us. His development at Bursaspor has been good, but we believe we can turn him into one of the top midfielders in France.
IN | Amro Hossam | €1M from Zamalek
A bit of a punt but my scouts think this player would have a bright future so given the fee we thought we’d take the risk and bring him to the club. He will go out on loan for the rest of the season.
A couple of players left this window.
OUT | Matheus Pereira | €5M to Al-Jazira
Al Jazira bid for Pereira and we rejected it. However, despite being in the Champions League, being top of the French league and playing well, he kicked up a fuss. I wasn’t going to have that from an average player so when the next bid came in I kicked up the fee a little and said that they could have him in the next window.
However, when the next bid came in I forgot to check the next window clause. It was removed. He left in October.
Youth player promotions
There haven’t been any more promotions to the first team this season.
Three cup games this month and a couple of great league performances.
Well, it has been another excellent month. The team is performing above expectations yet again and we find ourselves 6 points ahead of PSG. However, with Schmitt suddenly coming down with a virus and PSG up next, that lead could be eradicated by the time March comes around.
Excuses aside we’re again doing excellently. We need to manage the cup games with the Champions League matches and the league. It’s going to be a tough end to the season.
Here’s to the rest of the season.
Returning this January, we take a look at the youth players playing in the first-team squad and profile how they’re doing for us.
At just 17 years of age, Barry is already proving himself to be an accomplished player. The other youth player in this watch is also a right-back. I’m not sure how I will keep them both happy.
Barry has a 7.11 rating and 3 assists in 11 matches. Definitely, one to watch.
Slightly older than Barry, Abrigo also has 3 assists but in 18 matches. The future down the right is secure for a while I think.
That just about wraps things up. My next post will be covering the rest of the season!
